2020 - A Glance Back

I can sum up 2020 in one word: Grateful. For my health and the health of my family & friends. For my job and the food on my table. For learning new things and starting healthier habits. I know everyone has not been as lucky this year. My thoughts go out to everyone who has suffered and are struggling.

There were so many bad things that happened in 2020 but there were also many great things that happened. The pandemic taught me a lot about what I want in life and made me appreciate life even more. I started taking walks when the pandemic started so that I could move and get outside once a day while still staying at home being safe. When you walk you get to see so much more then when you drive around, here are my favorite shots.

I also started gardening & growing some of my own food and house plants. My dad was kind enough to build me a couple of garden beds and I grew tomatoes, peppers, green onions and radishes from scraps. I learned how to propagate mangos and avocados to turn into houseplants. I began growing microgreens as well. It is amazing to watch things grow and to care for plants.

One of my favorite things this year was all of the furry, and not so furry, friends that I met along the way.

I also learned this year to stop and “smell the roses.” The sunsets and clouds were outstanding. Don’t forget to look up!

This year, I learned how to make mozzarella and burrata. I did some crafting, made candles, a wreath and a little winter scene in a Bonne Mamam jar. I started doing online experiences through Airbnb. I took a master coffee class, learned how to take better pictures from my iPhone, took a farm tour in New Zealand and a virtual tour of Venice. Looking forward to taking more virtual adventures in 2021.

Below are my favorite quotes and sayings of the year.

This year was a time to educate ourselves, learn about privilege, stand up for others, donate time and money and fight for the rights of black lives. This won’t stop in 2020 and is something that I will work on moving forward. Hopefully a great start will be Biden and Harris for 2021, fingers crossed!

Earlier in 2020, before the pandemic, I had the opportunity to visit Georgia and the Carolina’s. I love Savannah and would love to go back. Being by the water is one of my favorite places to be.

During the pandemic, I decided to take a trip to Idaho Springs to getaway from everything. It was close to home but I decided that it wasn’t my thing to travel during the pandemic.

One of my favorite days of the year was a day trip my mom and I took to Estes Park. It was a beautiful day!

My parents had their 50th wedding anniversary this year. We rented tiny houses in Lyons so that we could get away together and still have our own spaces. It was nice enough to be outside most of the time and the tiny houses were very cool to stay in.

I love the holidays and am grateful to have the opportunity to celebrate them safely with my family. We distanced, wore masks and stayed outside as much as possible. We started traditions we hope to carry through to the years to come. I roamed around and found amazing holiday lights, decorated my home and café, did a fun gift box project for work and enjoyed the quiet holidays.

I’m hopeful that 2021 will be brighter for everyone. Cheers to the New Year!
