The Neon Museum - Las Vegas
The Neon Museum/Boneyard Park has been on my list for a little while now. Truthfully, visiting this museum was the only reason I wanted to go to Vegas. The museum was founded in nineteen ninety six and is a two acre outdoor museum that shows and collects old neon signs that have been around since the nineteen thirties. When you arrive, the visitors center is in the old La Concha Motel Lobby which they moved into this location.
They have signs from the Golden Nugget, Moulin Rouge, Binion’s Horseshoe, Desert Rose Motel, Flamingo, Stardust, Aladdin, Riviera, Sahara, Barbary Coast, La Concha and Caesars Palace just to name a few. The museum has events, tours and general admission. You can even book your wedding or photo shoot here.
While the museum isn’t huge, it packs a punch and has a lot of signs. They have every letter you could think of, well, except for a K which I looked really hard for but it didn’t exist as a stand alone letter. They write things out with some of the stand alone letters, you need to really pay attention to see some of them but some are obvious.
Seeing all of the lights on the strip and in Vegas is unlike anything I’ve experienced. Seeing the old signs that are no longer around at the museum is impressive. It’s like a gigantic treasure chest.
